Pick
The tool that opens the game. Nothing else gets you rock quickly, and nothing but a pick or drill gets you ore.
Each of the first three tools is better than your hands at one kind of material and no better anywhere else. The pick is for rock, ore and metal, including prising hull plate off a wreck.
Its mining power of 2.4 is enough for every ore tier, even Exotic.
